SUEK-Kuzbass starts developing a longwall with coal reserves of over 5Mt at Ruban mine

29 April 2019
SUEK has begun the development of the second face at the Magistralny site competed at the end of 2017. A lot was done during the three years of construction, including the creation of a surface complex with all the necessary infrastructure. In total, SUEK-Kuzbass prepared more than twenty kilometres of mines and installed conveyor lines with belt widths of 1.4 and 1.6 metres. In the autumn of 2018, a loading complex, including 3.8 km long railway tracks and the Magistralnaya station with two receiving and departure tracks, was put into operation. Total investments in the overburden removal and preparation of reserves at the entire Magistralny site of the Ruban mine with a design capacity of 4 million tonnes per year and total coal reserves of more than 92 million tonnes exceeded 10 billion roubles.

The first longwall, No. 812, was commissioned at the end of last January and decommissioned in March 2019. During this time, over 4.6 million tonnes of coal was extracted.

In the next longwall, No. 814, the company pre-mounted 175 upgraded units of JOY RS47000/650 support, which made it possible to put the face into operation in mid-April. The machinery also includes a Eickhoff SL 900 shearer loader, capable of extracting up to four thousand tonnes of coal per hour. The team of Yevgeny Kosmin, the Hero of Kuzbass from the Yalevsky mine, set world coal production records in 2017 and 2018 by operating the same shearer.

Factoring in the upgrade of the transportation chain, i.e. fully mounted four-kilometre BECKER rack railway and a more productive PF6/1142 longwall conveyor, SUEK invested 1.4 billion roubles in the new longwall.
