Murmansk Commercial Seaport certifies its environmental management system for compliance with ISO 14001:2015

24 September 2020
For the second straight year, the city's primary taxpayer confirms the right to this international environmental certificate

'Russian Register' Certification Association has now completed a scheduled annual audit of Murmansk Commercial Seaport units related to environmental management. The assessment covered such areas of Murmansk Commercial Seaport activity as loading sea vessels, maintaining and repairing handling equipment, housekeeping, along with the construction, reconstruction and repair of port infrastructure facilities and others. The company's management system documents were checked for compliance with the environmental management system (EMS). As compared to the previous audit of the environmental management system at Murmansk Commercial Seaport in September 2019, experts from 'Russian Register' Certification Association noted significant improvements thanks to an ambitious environmental programme developed and delivered by Murmansk Commercial Seaport.

'Despite all the difficulties in 2020 associated with the global market environment and the coronavirus epidemic, Murmansk Commercial Seaport management and personnel continue to improve production processes in terms of minimising their environmental impact, drawing on international best practices, and in some areas even surpassing them,' noted Sergey Soloviev from 'Russian Register' Certification Association.

Let us recall that, in 2018, Murmansk Commercial Seaport first received the international ISO 14001:2015 certificate, confirming its compliance with the international environmental management system. According to the standards, environmental audits shall take place once a year. This guarantees that each certificate holder not only meets the necessary requirements but is also committed to continuous improvement. Murmansk Commercial Seaport successfully passed such inspections in 2019 and 2020.

In January 2020, following an assessment of business activities by the Clean Seas International Environmental Foundation, the Murmansk Commercial Seaport received the Platinum Certificate of Compliance with the Clean Port environmental standard. In addition, the Association of Commercial Seaports noted the achievements of Murmansk Commercial Seaport in the field of environmental protection. At the annual competition among the country's stevedoring companies, Murmansk Commercial Seaport won in the Best Environmentally Friendly Company category and received an award in the Best Stevedoring Company category.
