30 August 2021

In 2020-2021, JSC Bureau Veritas Certification Rus, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, audited the compliance of Vanino Bulk Terminal (Daltransugol) with international environmental regulations. On 1 July 2021, the company received a certificate of compliance with ISO 14001:2015 environmental management systems.

The strategic objective of the Terminal is to be able to achieve high performance levels with minimal impact on the environment. For this purpose, the company introduces various environmental measures, with a focus on preventive actions aimed at avoiding ecological effects that can have a negative impact on humans and the environment.

An environmental management system (EMS) is a set of internal rules of an organisation that describe how the company identifies, assesses, monitors and manages its environment-related activities. The system helps to prevent negative impacts.

The decision made at Vanino to initiate a comprehensive audit of corporate EMS also shows its concern for the environment, which is not just an intention, but also confirmed by an independent official document.

ISO 14001 certificate is a document issued by accredited certification bodies, confirming the compliance of corporate environmental management systems with the main criteria and requirements of the current international standards ISO 14001:2015.

The issued certificate confirms that Vanino Bulk Terminal complies with both Russian and international requirements in the field of cargo (coal) transshipment at seaports in terms of its ability to control production risk factors.

The Terminal assumes responsibility for implementing the Environmental Policy, for the introduction and continuous improvement of an environmental management system to enhance performance in line with environmental legislation.

In its activities, the Terminal is committed to scrupulously observing legal requirements and standards in the field of ecology, whereas environmental management and control have been and remain the priority areas of the company's operations.

"ISO certification is not a prerequisite for us to operate, but the introduction of international standards enables us to improve our Environmental Management System, increase its efficiency, consider environmental issues as they develop, and to reduce environmental risks and enhance environmental safety," said Irina Egorova, Head of Industrial Safety and Environmental Control of Vanino Bulk Terminal.

Top managers of the Terminal assume responsibility for implementing measures in accordance with the Environmental Policy and Strategy, for the introduction and continuous improvement of an environmental management system to enhance performance in line with ISO 14001:2015 international standards and environmental legislation.
